Women's Singles Rankings: The October 5, 2026 Point Standings
Elena Rybakina leads the WTA singles ranking with 9,901 points, followed by Aryna Sabalenka (7,810) and Jessica Pegula (7,265). These standings are from the published singles ranking for the week of October 5, 2026.
Metric: published singles ranking points; unit: points; coverage: 100 ranked players; direction: higher points rank higher, with WTA tie-break order preserved; ranking week: October 5, 2026; retrieved: October 11, 2026. Row statuses: 50 official_value and 50 industry_observed_value.
The table is a compiled research dataset based on 2 independent publishing organizations, with row-level source and method notes shown in the ranking table. WTA provides positions 1–50; TennisLive supplies positions 51–100 for the same week. A separate dated Top 100 was used to check the ranking, with further checks of selected players' histories. The source details and historical-snapshot limitations are explained below.

What the WTA singles ranking actually measures
WTA singles ranking points reflect eligible tournament results within a rolling 52-week period. The WTA methodology generally uses up to 18 tournament results for singles, with specific requirements and exceptions. A player's ranking changes when new results are counted or old points expire, not simply when she wins or loses her most recent match.
The weekly ranking is different from the Race to the WTA Finals, which tracks points for the current season. These standings also do not measure career titles, head-to-head success, win percentage, prize money or predicted tournament performance.
Rank positions and point totals must be read together. Players can hold different positions despite identical displayed points, because WTA ranking tie-break rules determine the order. In this snapshot, Magdalena Frech and Janice Tjen both have 1,120 points at ranks 48 and 49.

Chart: the Top 20 WTA singles players
Each bar compares a player's points with Rybakina's 9,901-point total, which sets the 100% reference. Values match the ranking table.
At No. 20, Jasmine Paolini has 2,122 points, or 21.4% of Rybakina's total.
Methodology and source quality
Ranking metric and date
WTA singles ranking points, integer units, sorted high to low. One weekly snapshot: October 5, 2026. Retrieved on October 11, 2026. Every player's points are taken from this same ranking week.
Publishing organizations and roles
Source priority: WTA official ranking (numeric source for 1–50 and methodology), followed by the dated TennisLive publication (industry numeric source for 51–100). Tennis-Minute provides a full 100-row validation of published ranks and points (its country codes are excluded); TennisTemple player histories validate four dated boundary and lower-ranked observations. Both validation outlets are separate from the two numeric publishers.
Status and inclusion rules
official_value means directly visible in the WTA ranking/player listing; industry_observed_value means published by TennisLive for the same week but not independently extracted from the WTA's next page. Only players with a published rank and points total for October 5 are included; each entry also identifies the player, sporting country code and source.
Ties, accuracy and scope
Published ranks are retained where points match; equal totals do not imply an interchangeable official position. For example, Nos. 48–49 both have 1,120 points. Integer point values are unrounded. No missing rows or points are filled in by modeling.
Freshness and conflicts
Country codes describe sporting affiliations in the selected weekly ranking, not citizenship. Tennis-Minute uses different codes for Potapova, Oliynykova, Timofeeva, Rakhimova, Kasatkina, Quevedo and Blinkova. We use WTA codes for positions 1–50 and TennisLive codes for positions 51–100, without averaging conflicting values. Because live ranking pages update, older positions are best checked against dated records.
What is not measured
The table covers positions 1–100 on one dated singles list only: doubles players, the Race, live projections, players below No. 100, unknown values and values from other ranking weeks are excluded. The values are not prize money, wins, win likelihood or year-end rankings. Country codes denote published sporting affiliation, not a citizenship dataset.
StatRanker-calculated metrics: leader gap = points at rank 1 minus points at rank 2 (9,901 − 7,810 = 2,091); point-total share for Top 10 = sum of ranks 1–10 (61,040) divided by sum of ranks 1–100 (178,129), multiplied by 100 = 34.27%; Top 100 median = (rank 50 points 1,112 + rank 51 points 1,106) / 2 = 1,109. Each statistic is calculated from published points for October 5. Country concentration = (16 USA + 10 CZE + 6 UKR) / 100 players × 100 = 32%; unique country/region codes = 34 among these same 100 rows. These percentages apply only to the selected 100 players, not to all WTA players or all ranking points worldwide.

Four findings from the October 5 Top 100
Key Insight
World No. 1 Rybakina's 9,901 points exceed Sabalenka's 7,810 by 2,091 (26.8% of No. 2's total). This is the largest adjacent-point gap in this Top 100.
Notable Pattern
The Top 10 hold 61,040 of the 178,129 points summed across these 100 players: 34.27%. This percentage describes the 100 players in this table.
Country Concentration
The United States accounts for 16 of 100 players, Czechia 10, and Ukraine 6. Together they represent 32% of this table, across 34 listed country/region codes.
Outlier
Only 21 points separate No. 3 Pegula (7,265) and No. 4 Gauff (7,244), but the drop from Gauff to No. 5 Andreeva (5,841) is 1,403 points, the second-largest adjacent gap.
How to interpret these standings
Ranking positions do not always reflect similar gaps in points. Near the Top 100 cutoff, No. 99 Julia Grabher has 787 points and No. 100 Emma Raducanu has 785, just two points apart. Equal point totals can also produce different positions under WTA tie-break rules.
official_value identifies points taken directly from WTA's displayed ranking. industry_observed_value identifies points reported by TennisLive for the same week. Both refer to the October 5 WTA singles standings; the label tells you which publication supplied the entry.
New tournament results and the expiration of older points can change these standings. For a player's current position, consult the latest WTA list rather than this dated snapshot.
Frequently asked questions about the 2026 WTA rankings
Who is No. 1 in the WTA singles ranking on October 5, 2026?
Elena Rybakina is first with 9,901 WTA singles ranking points. Aryna Sabalenka is second with 7,810 and Jessica Pegula is third with 7,265.
Is this a final 2026 year-end ranking?
No. These positions are from the October 5, 2026 weekly ranking. Later tournament results and the expiration of older points can change the order before the season ends.
How does the WTA calculate singles ranking points?
The WTA uses qualifying tournament results over a rolling 52-week period and generally counts up to 18 singles results under its rules. Tournament category and round reached determine awarded points; see the WTA's official ranking explanation for exceptions.
Is the WTA singles ranking the same as the Race to the WTA Finals?
No. The rolling ranking reflects roughly 52 weeks of eligible results; the Race counts points accumulated in the current season for WTA Finals qualification.
Are all 100 rows taken directly from the official WTA website?
No. Positions 1–50 and their points were taken directly from WTA. TennisLive provides positions 51–100 for October 5. Their ranks and points agree with Tennis-Minute's dated list, and selected players were checked against TennisTemple histories. The latter 50 entries retain the industry_observed_value status.
Why can two players have the same points but different ranks?
The WTA uses tie-break criteria beyond the displayed points, including eligible results in major events and other factors. In this snapshot Magdalena Frech is No. 48 and Janice Tjen No. 49, each on 1,120 points.
How was the Top 100 median of 1,109 points obtained?
The two central values in the 100-player descending list are No. 50 Anhelina Kalinina on 1,112 and No. 51 Karolina Pliskova on 1,106. Their arithmetic average is (1,112 + 1,106) / 2 = 1,109.
Does the Top 10's 34.27% represent all WTA ranking points worldwide?
No. The denominator is exactly 178,129 points, the sum of these 100 listed players. The calculation is 61,040 / 178,129 × 100; players outside the Top 100 are excluded.
