Top 100 Countries by Soft Power 2026: Global Ranking
Soft Power Ranking 2026: Leaders, Scores, and Key Changes
The United States ranks first in Brand Finance's Global Soft Power Index 2026 with a score of 74.9 out of 100, followed by China at 73.5 and Japan at 70.6. This page ranks the official Top 100 from a study covering all 193 United Nations member states.
This 2026 ranking uses the Brand Finance Global Soft Power score, measured from 0 to 100, with higher scores ranking higher. The page covers the Top 100 of 193 ranked countries from Brand Finance's primary dataset; all 100 rows are published 2026 values. Data were retrieved October 6, 2026.
The 2026 study surveyed 159,459 respondents across 102 markets and evaluates countries across 55 Soft Power metrics. This page keeps Brand Finance's published rank and one-decimal score, then adds Top 100 averages, median, year-over-year direction counts, and UN M49 regional analysis. No values on this page are forecast or modeled.
United States, official rank #1. China is #2 at 73.5, a 1.4-point gap.
Sri Lanka is #100. Nepal at #99 also displays 33.8 because Brand Finance rounds published scores to one decimal.
Calculated from the two middle published scores: (40.6 + 40.5) / 2.

Overview: what the 2026 soft power ranking actually measures
Brand Finance defines Soft Power as a nation's ability to influence preferences and behaviours through attraction and persuasion rather than coercion. The index combines Familiarity, Reputation, Influence, and 35 nation-brand attributes grouped into eight pillars covering Business & Trade, International Relations, Education & Science, Culture & Heritage, Media & Communication, Sustainable Future, Governance, and People & Values.
The 2026 ranking is therefore broader than a culture-only league table. Entertainment, heritage, tourism appeal, brands, diplomacy, science, governance, media, business perceptions, and broader reputation can all contribute to the final score. Recommendation questions about investing, working, studying, visiting, or purchasing are reported by Brand Finance for context but are not included in the calculated Soft Power score.
The United States, China, and Japan form the 2026 top three. Beyond the headline ranks, the data show how concentrated the Top 100 is, how scores changed from 2025, which regions are most represented, and which country recorded the largest positive score change.
Top 10 countries in the Global Soft Power Index 2026
The top of the ranking is tightly contested between the United States and China, while Japan moves into third place ahead of the United Kingdom. The table keeps Brand Finance's official rank order, including cases where published one-decimal scores are tied.

Chart: Top 20 soft power scores in 2026
The bars use exactly the same published scores as the ranking table. Width is scaled to the 74.9 score of the United States, so the chart is a visual comparison of index points, not a percentage share of global soft power.
Methodology
The ranking uses Brand Finance's published Global Soft Power Index 2026 data. The study surveyed 159,459 respondents in 102 markets, using 54 languages, and assessed all 193 United Nations member states across 55 metrics. For each country, this page uses the published 2026 rank and score, the 2025 rank, and the published score change.
Metric, unit, and direction
Metric: overall Global Soft Power score. Unit: index points out of 100. Higher scores indicate stronger international impact and stronger perceptions under Brand Finance's methodology.
How the score is weighted
Brand Finance gives 50% of the score to KPIs and 50% to nation-brand attributes. Within the KPI half, Influence carries 30%, while Familiarity and Reputation carry 10% each. Attribute weights are set through annual statistical drivers analysis.
Market weighting
Brand Finance states that market inputs use a 50% “one country, one vote” component and a 50% population component, with an additional Familiarity modifier so markets more familiar with a nation brand receive greater weight.
Region method
StatRanker assigns each Top 100 row to one broad UN M49 geographic region: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, or Oceania. These labels are for filtering and regional counts only; they do not alter the Soft Power score or official rank.
Brand Finance directly publishes the 2026 rank, 2026 score, 2025 rank, and score change used in each row. The additional statistics on this page are calculated only from those published values: Top 100 mean = sum of the 100 scores / 100; median = (40.6 + 40.5) / 2 = 40.55; Top 10 and ranks 91-100 averages use their respective published scores; direction counts classify score changes as positive, negative, or zero; regional shares equal each UN M49 region count / 100.
Brand Finance rounds ranking-table scores to one decimal place. This page does not infer unreported precision. When two countries display the same score but Brand Finance assigns different ranks, the published rank is retained rather than recalculating the order from rounded values.
For consistency, the Global Soft Power Index 2026 master ranking is the numeric reference for this page. Later Brand Finance country pages may provide useful context, but they are not mixed into the ranking when a later publication shows a different figure. Conflicting values are never averaged.
This is a perception-based composite index, not a direct measure of military capability, GDP, democratic quality, morality, tourism arrivals, brand value, or cultural exports. Because this page presents the Top 100 from a 193-country ranking, its averages, medians, direction counts, and regional shares describe the Top 100 subset unless stated otherwise. No modeled projections, forecasts, or synthetic 2026 values are used.

What Changed in the 2026 Global Soft Power Ranking?
Key Insight
The Top 10 average is 66.91, versus 34.15 for ranks 91-100. The 32.76-point difference shows how much higher the leading group sits than the bottom decile of this Top 100 subset.
Notable Pattern
59 of the Top 100 countries recorded a lower score than in 2025, 38 recorded an increase, and 3 were unchanged. That means 59% of the Top 100 moved down in score even though rank movement can differ when other countries move more.
Regional/Source Concentration
Using UN M49 broad regions, Europe contributes 36 of the Top 100 and Asia 33. Together they account for 69% of the Top 100; the Americas contribute 19, Africa 10, and Oceania 2.
Outlier
North Korea is the strongest positive score outlier inside the Top 100: +2.4 points and a rise from rank 75 in 2025 to rank 63 in 2026. Brand Finance also identifies it as the fastest-growing Top 100 nation brand by both score and rank.
What the 2026 ranking means — and what it does not
Read the score as a structured measure of international perception under Brand Finance's model. A country can score highly because it is familiar, influential, reputable, associated with strong brands or science, culturally attractive, diplomatically visible, well governed, or strong across several of those dimensions at once. The overall score does not tell you which single pillar caused a country's position without examining the underlying metrics.
Year-over-year score change and rank change are different signals. A country can lose points but rise in rank if peers decline more, or gain points without moving much if nearby countries also improve. For this reason, the row notes show both the 2025 rank and the published score change rather than presenting rank movement alone as improvement or decline.
A higher score is not an endorsement of a government's policies or conduct. It is a perception index based on survey responses and Brand Finance's weighting methodology. It should be used alongside objective economic, governance, tourism, media, cultural, diplomatic, and security data when making country-level comparisons or decisions.
FAQ
Which country has the most soft power in 2026?
The United States ranks #1 in the Brand Finance Global Soft Power Index 2026 with a published score of 74.9/100. China is #2 at 73.5 and Japan is #3 at 70.6.
Is the 2026 Soft Power score only about culture and entertainment?
No. Culture and heritage are part of the model, but the overall index also includes Familiarity, Reputation, Influence, Business & Trade, International Relations, Education & Science, Media & Communication, Sustainable Future, Governance, and People & Values.
How large is the 2026 Brand Finance survey?
Brand Finance reports 159,459 respondents across 102 markets, with surveys conducted in 54 languages. All 193 United Nations member states are assessed.
How is the overall Soft Power score weighted?
The methodology gives 50% to KPIs and 50% to nation-brand attributes. Influence contributes 30% of the total score, Familiarity 10%, Reputation 10%, and the 35 attributes across eight pillars make up the remaining 50% using statistically derived attribute weights.
Why can two countries show the same score but different ranks?
Brand Finance states that the published ranking-table scores are rounded to one decimal place. StatRanker therefore keeps the official publisher rank and does not invent extra decimal precision to break displayed ties.
Are the Recommendation measures included in the Soft Power score?
No. Brand Finance says Recommendation questions — such as willingness to invest, work, study, visit, or purchase from a country — provide additional context but are not included in calculating the Soft Power score.
Why does this page show 100 countries when the index covers 193?
The source ranks all 193 United Nations member states. This page intentionally presents the official Top 100. Any StatRanker mean, median, direction count, or regional share stated here is calculated only for those 100 rows unless the text explicitly says otherwise.
Are any scores projected or estimated by StatRanker?
No. Every ranking row uses Brand Finance's published 2026 overall score and official rank. StatRanker calculations are limited to descriptive statistics such as averages, median, counts, gaps, and regional shares from confirmed published inputs.
