Remittance Inflows by Country 2026: Ranking Based on Latest World
Latest World Bank data on remittance inflows by country
India is the largest recipient in this 2026 snapshot, with $150.71 billion in personal remittances received, followed by Mexico at $64.39 billion. The ranking uses World Bank World Development Indicators series BX.TRF.PWKR.CD.DT and orders economies by absolute inflows in current U.S. dollars.
The figures are not forecasts for 2026. They are the latest available World Bank observations checked in August 2026. Of the 30 economies in the ranking, 26 have 2025 observations and four use 2024 because a newer value is not available in the series for those rows.

What personal remittances received measures
The World Bank indicator is broader than transfers sent by migrants to relatives. Under the BPM6 balance-of-payments framework, personal remittances comprise personal transfers and compensation of employees. Personal transfers cover current transfers in cash or in kind between resident and nonresident households. Compensation of employees covers income earned by border, seasonal and other short-term workers employed in an economy where they are not resident.
Metric: Personal remittances, received (current US$).
Interpretation: The table measures the absolute nominal U.S.-dollar value received by an economy. It does not measure remittances per resident or remittances relative to GDP.
This distinction changes how the ranking should be interpreted. A populous country can rank near the top because its total inflow is very large even when remittances per resident are much lower than in a smaller economy. A per-capita ranking answers a different question and can therefore produce a substantially different order.
Current U.S. dollars allow the nominal size of inflows to be compared on a common currency basis. They are not adjusted for inflation, however, and exchange-rate movements can change the dollar value of remittances even when transfers measured in local currency follow a different path.
Top 10 countries by remittance inflows
All ten economies at the top of the ranking have 2025 observations in the current WDI series. India stands well above Mexico, while the Philippines, Egypt, Pakistan and France form a much tighter group around $40–42 billion.

Chart: Top 20 confirmed remittance recipients
The chart uses the same values as the ranking table. India is a clear outlier at the top, while several economies between third and sixth place are separated by little more than $1 billion.
Methodology
The ranking uses World Bank World Development Indicators series BX.TRF.PWKR.CD.DT, “Personal remittances, received (current US$).” World Bank metadata identifies IMF balance-of-payments data and World Bank staff estimates as the sources behind the series. The indicator is annual and is reported in current U.S. dollars.
Metric and direction
Economies are ranked by the absolute value of personal remittances received. A larger current-dollar inflow receives a higher position.
Reporting-year rule
The table uses the latest available WDI observation for each economy. Twenty-six Top 30 entries use 2025 data; Guatemala, Ukraine, Nepal and Ethiopia use 2024.
Coverage
The ranking contains 30 confirmed economies. Values from commercial ranking sites, media estimates and unrelated remittance measures are not substituted for the WDI series.
Forecasts and projections
No 2026 figure is estimated. Every row uses a value published in WDI, so the ranking does not apply growth rates, CAGR assumptions or modeled projections.
Ranking method: sort the underlying WDI values from highest to lowest. Display conversion: current US$ ÷ 1,000,000,000 = current US$ billions. Display values are rounded to two decimals after the ranking order has been established.
Different reporting years: WDI observations do not become available for every economy at the same time. A 2024 observation is therefore retained where it remains the latest value in the series. The reporting year is shown directly in each affected row rather than treating an older value as a 2025 observation.
Source consistency: the ranking does not average conflicting figures from different datasets. The WDI series is used as the numeric reference throughout the table. The World Development Indicators database lists an update dated July 13, 2026.
Measurement limits: remittances can be difficult to measure because transfers move through many channels. World Bank metadata notes that informal transactions may not be fully covered in balance-of-payments statistics and that some economies combine direct observations with estimation methods to improve coverage.
The metric does not measure remittances per capita, remittances as a percentage of GDP, household dependence on remittance income, migrant populations, transfer fees, purchasing power or the full value of informal transfers that are not captured in the underlying statistics.

Insights from the Top 30 ranking
Key Insight
India’s $150.71 billion is about 2.34 times Mexico’s $64.39 billion. The gap between first and second place is much larger than the differences among the next several economies.
Notable Pattern
The Top 10 receives about $489.6 billion. Because all ten entries use 2025 observations, their combined value is roughly 60.9% of the $804.15 billion world aggregate reported for 2025.
Regional Concentration
South Asia places India, Pakistan and Bangladesh within the Top 7. Latin America and the Caribbean places Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia and the Dominican Republic within the Top 20.
Metric Effect
France, Germany, Belgium and Italy also appear in the Top 20. Because the BPM6 indicator includes compensation of employees as well as personal transfers, their values should not be interpreted as cross-border household transfers alone.
What the ranking means
This table answers a specific question: which economies receive the largest absolute amount of personal remittances? India’s first-place position means its total current-dollar inflow is the largest in the ranking. It does not mean that the average resident receives more remittance income than residents of smaller economies.
Other measures are better suited to different comparisons. Remittances per capita relate inflows to population, while remittances as a percentage of GDP show the scale of inflows relative to the domestic economy. Those metrics should not be combined with this absolute-value ranking.
Reporting years also matter. Guatemala, Ukraine, Nepal and Ethiopia use 2024 observations, while the other 26 entries use 2025. These rows are retained because the ranking uses each economy’s latest available WDI value rather than estimating an unavailable 2025 figure.
The indicator should also be interpreted as a balance-of-payments measure. Because it includes both personal transfers and compensation of employees, it is broader than a tally of transfers processed by consumer money-transfer services.
FAQ
Which country receives the most remittances?
India ranks first in this latest-available World Bank WDI ranking, with $150.71 billion in personal remittances received for 2025.
Are these 2026 remittance figures?
No. This is a 2026 snapshot of the latest available World Bank data. Twenty-six Top 30 rows use 2025 observations and four use 2024. No 2026 value is modeled.
What does the World Bank include in personal remittances received?
The indicator combines personal transfers and compensation of employees under the BPM6 balance-of-payments framework.
Why is this ranking different from a remittances-per-capita ranking?
This page ranks total current-dollar inflows. A per-capita measure divides remittances by population, so smaller economies can rank much higher even when their total inflow is lower.
Why do some economies use 2024 data?
Guatemala, Ukraine, Nepal and Ethiopia use 2024 because 2024 is the latest available observation in the current WDI series for those economies.
Are current U.S. dollar values adjusted for inflation?
No. Current U.S. dollars are nominal values. Inflation and exchange-rate movements can affect comparisons across years.
Do the figures capture all informal remittances?
Not necessarily. World Bank metadata notes that informal channels are difficult to measure and may not be fully covered in balance-of-payments statistics.
Does the ranking contain forecasts?
No. Every Top 30 row uses an official World Bank WDI observation. No growth rate or projection formula is applied.
